Radio Freedom is a platform born from a crucial observation: concerning developments in South Africa’s political landscape, often masked as democratic functions, are in fact counter-revolutionary activities aimed at undermining the authority of the state. We believe it’s vital to recognize these subtle yet potent threats, which manifest in various ways, from legal challenges used to settle political scores and self-appointed individuals claiming to represent specific groups, to internal corruption and the insidious weakening of state institutions leading to a decline in public trust and the state’s ability to govern effectively.
The consequences of undermining state authority are not isolated events but rather an incremental, orchestrated process designed to weaken the state’s capacity to enforce laws, appoint competent individuals, maintain infrastructure, and ultimately destabilize the economy, fostering social unrest. This creates fertile ground for “champions” promoting narratives that further erode the ideals of our democratic dispensation.
Drawing inspiration from its historical prominence as the voice of the African National Congress (ANC) and Umkhonto we Sizwe during the liberation struggle, Radio Freedom is once again called upon to defend the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) against a massive onslaught by the forces of counter-revolution. During apartheid, operating from exile with the support of friendly nations like Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, Madagascar, and Ethiopia, Radio Freedom served as a vital instrument of social mobilization, a clarion call to make South Africa ungovernable and apartheid unworkable. It played a crucial role in the battle of ideas, inspiring hope, instilling courage, and convincing the people of the inevitable victory of liberation.
